It’s not everyday that you have a cloudless, warm day in the middle of October.  And on a weekend, no less!  So when when Saturday came around and the weather was perfect, I said -now or never.  Time to get those pictures I have been talking about for so long.

I usually see amazing sights on my way to and from work.  Sometimes the light strikes me as being unique or the clouds.  The problem with living in Colorado is that if you stopped driving every time you saw something beautiful, you would never arrive at a destination.

The solution then became to find a nice day and just spend time getting the actual shots I wanted.  They may not be the ones that include the light, but at least I would get the structure.  Meanwhile, my drives to and from work could remain accident-free, and I could enjoy some of the scenery without having to feel like I had to pull over right away to capture the moment.  This would also allow me to use more imagination while painting from the photograph.

Increasingly, I have been drawn to the huge wind turbines on the plains.  They are just so monstrous and odd looking.  The plains have always felt mysterious to me - so much emptiness that it feels full.  Add the turbines and it’s like you are on another planet entirely!

The wind turbines weren’t moving this day, which made it easier to photograph them.  The sky was empty of clouds.  No wind, no movement, just empty space and color.
