Artist's Bio
Abbie Groves is a self-taught artist with over 20 years of experience in various media, and a lifelong passion for drawing. Inspired by her family, Abbie has honed her craft in soft pastel, which has become her medium of choice in recent years. She has showcased her work in numerous galleries and juried exhibitions since 2005, participating in state, national and international shows.
Residing in the picturesque mountains of Colorado, Abbie continues to refine her skills through mentorship with renowned instructors. She has studied soft pastel techniques with Karen Margulis and Marla Baggetta, learned oil painting methods from Jane Jones, and received classical figure drawing training from multiple instructors at the Art Students League of Denver, as well as classical drawing instruction at REAL Art Academy in Denver.
Abbie’s dedication to continuous learning and artistic growth reflects her commitment to producing exceptional, dynamic works of art.
Statement About This Site
I believe that creating with our own hands is an innate human gift, and I’m passionate about sharing that joy with others. Whether it's painting, quilting, hand spinning, handweaving, knitting, or crocheting, I find great fulfillment in bringing ideas to life through various crafts. I always have a project in the works—whether it's being designed, planned, or actively created—and I want to inspire others to experience the same sense of creative flow.
Alongside my love for fiber arts and painting, I enjoy researching topics ranging from fiber and the fashion industry to painting materials and their environmental impact, always striving to deepen my understanding of the materials I work with.
I firmly believe that people are at their happiest when they are crafting with their hands, whether it’s cooking, painting, drawing, sculpting, or fixing up an old car. In today’s fast-paced world, we often lose sight of the joy and personal growth that comes from making things for ourselves, purely for the pleasure of creating.
